A senior manager of the IPC's Strategic Investment Department, though I suppose that might as well be on pause. Right now, I'm a senior manager at Phoenix Casino, instead - why don't you stop by sometime during the evening, and you might as well be met with a bunny surprise.

Glad you asked! Though I'm not sure how much it counts for a talent, I have quite the impressive luck. No matter the gamble, the danger, the puzzle ahead of me - if I bet it all on my "luck", then I know I'll come out of it the winner.

Though if you want actual talents, then you will have to get to know me and find out yourself.

I haven't yet read all the books in the universe, or watched all the movies, or listened to all the songs, or eaten all the food... So it's hard to say I have a proper favorite, isn't it?

[ Usually all business with no concept of play, she's thrown off her rhythm. She jumps, and her eyes go wide in confusion. ]

( wwrd (what would ratio do)... aventurine puts on a serious face, looking topaz up and down, as though judging the veracity of her words... and then he smiles, approaching the piano with the lunch boxes. )

I'll make it an exception this time... ( dramatic pause, for effect. ) Depending on what today's lunch is.

[ Upon scrutinization, she subconsciously straightens her spine and swallows thickly. Is this some kind of interrogation? On the other hand, Aventurine seems to be... enjoying himself. Which is kinda rare, so even if she's still a bad actress she can somewhat follow along. ]

Uhhh soup, salad... some fruit for dessert. Nothing too heavy.

( and when he opens one of the lunch boxes, that is indeed what's all inside. a pleasing - and appetizing, above all else - find. he reaches for one of the fruit and eats it, entirely out of order. )

[ She has to focus. The information she has is serious. It's easier to calm down when she sees him eating. The order doesn't matter, as long as he's fed. ]

I met up with Hiyori yesterday. He had information on two murders and a kidnapping. All done by guests. Naturally, the guilty parties haven't faced punishment.

But it seems like a weird thing to lie about, especially when there's no consequences for The House for any of it.

The House might not punish people for those crimes, but they could have been looking for more than just their reaction. How will people react, once they hear of it? Will more people want to join in on the killings? Depravity comes in many ways. Sex is only one of them.

Are you worried about what crime going unpunished in here might mean for the general justice of the resort? ( like ipc employees have any room to talk, but. )

[ IPC employees have no room to talk. All this chatter about murder leaves Topaz's lunchbox untouched. ]

Not really. I mean, I am, but if they couldn't be trusted to do anything about bunny killings or vandalism, my expectations are nonexistent. The House hasn't said anything by now, so I doubt they'll say anything at all. Even though the absence of punishment is common knowledge, this place hasn't gotten turned completely upside down. I'd like to think people aren't all depraved in that way.

The report stated that The House can revive the dead. I'm not trying to be optimistic— I'm sure there's a reason that isn't benevolent for keeping it a secret. It's just a little wild that they're not advertising it. Like a license to take their indulgences to even bigger extremes.

( there's something here that aventurine appreciates, the way topaz does tell him the fact 'death' is about as meaningless here as it is many other things. or rather - easier to see it as the house holds everyone's lives in their benevolent hands, and would breathe life back into any of their guests' dead bodies... if they so wish, probably. )

Death is always a topic no one wants to hear or talk about. The House and the Family probably share that similarity, though the Family made sure to reassure everyone that death isn't possible, while the House just prefers not to speak of it. Why worry anyone about something people naturally fear when their nice resort is meant to focus so much on sexual intimacy? That just tells me they don't think death is a kink.

( said in jest, all things considered. )

They don't speak of it because they don't want people to die, and not in the way you would think. The House can revive the dead, but not without consequences to whoever died, and not to the murderer. Their own unique way to say don't do it again, like it's the victim's fault at all. But that's just the House for you.

And everything is a service, isn't it? If the IPC had the tech, they'd prolly do the exact same thing. But—

I only heard that the victim was revived. Where'd you hear that they were punished for getting killed?

( if the ipc had the tech the alliance would probably hunt them down too, which is a thought almost a little too scary. their good relationship with such loyal pathstriders of the hunt is too precious to lose under the possibility of disregarding death as a de-facto end entirely.

which almost makes this conversation funny, if topaz hadn't just asked the million credits question. it's an easy puzzle for her to solve, as aventurine reaches for some of the salad. )

I guess you can consider this a pop quiz. ( more roleplay, if only to shield his hesitance from speaking up about the truth. it used to be such an easy throw-away sentiment in the past, and yet. ) Information flows fast here, if you know where to look, but even Hiyori, who heard so much, didn't have this piece of information. How do you think I know this, then?

The informant who witnessed the murder didn't see the aftermath. Neither did the murderer.

So, you either got the info directly from the victim yourself or you were the victim.

Quick and precise, good. But you don't think people might be withholding information, or lying about the amount of people involved? Or, for example, I wasn't at the scene of the murder at all, but I was with the victim when they revived. These are all possible possibilities, aren't they?

The only person who benefits from changing the events is the murderer or an accomplice to the murder.

[ her eyes narrow as she hunts for traces of past violence on him a healing scratch, something. Not a witness, not the murderer... so he was the victim. She doesn't have to say it out loud. She doesn't want to. ]

( oof. well. the weird, quick pain in his chest is certainly uncomfortable in response to her reaction, and he knows that is hardly a good sign. )

People do certainly call me such. But that's what I do, isn't it? Risk-chaser, always betting all or nothing at all. There was only one way to find out the answer we all wanted to know.

( and if it means putting his life right on the line for that answer, he would gladly do it. )

But I'm here, aren't I? Which means I won my gamble, as I always do.

[ his casual talk about what others have said about him makes her irritation grow. These are the traits in him that she finds frustrating. And to consider this a win? That adds fuel to the fire. What could he have done if he lost?

Selfishly, she panics, only to immediately recognize her own selfishness. ]

But you said yourself there was a price— more like a penalty. Are you forbidden from discussing it?

[ It could be a situation like her rank up, where it can't be discussed. ]

I am. ( he's not, but that's the point.

because lying has a side-effect, one of the 'penalties' he got from dying. the feeling, this time, starts on his right arm, and aventurine strips off the right side of his lab coat to show it to topaz. sure enough, against the pale of his skin, there's heart-shaped rashes growing slowly. )

I'm not, which could mean they don't care whether people die or not, but there's more consequences to the victim than the murderer. That would only make people more willing to engage in violent acts anyway, so figures the House enjoys it somehow. Well, getting rashes whenever I lie is pretty inconvenient, so I can't say it makes me very enthusiastic to try again.
